Make Money Betting? Absolutely! Gamble? Absolutely NOT!

I make money online risk-free doing Matched Betting. I know many people find it hard to get their heads around this guaranteed money maker. Here’s how I have described it to many of my friends.

You walk into your local supermarket and there is today’s special offer. A 6-pack of golf balls normally cost $7 each but today if your buy one 6-pack you’ll get a second 6-pack free. (This is a buy-one-get-one-free or BOGOF offer)

Good bargain you think so you pay the $7 and walk out with two 6-packs of golf balls.

On your way home you pass through the local market and meet a golfing fanatic friend who runs a stall. He wants to buy your golf balls to resell them.

He offers you $5 for each pack – and he takes out a $10 note to tempt you. He’s thinking – “I can sell these for $6 each which is cheaper than the supermarket and still make money on each one”. Of course, you play hard to get but eventually “give in” and accept the $10 and give him the two 6-packs of golf balls.

You just made $3 profit for very little effort. You bought something for $7 in one market and sold it for $10 in another market.

Bookmakers free bets are BOGOF offers. They’re usually something like “Bet $25 and we’ll give you a free $25 bet”. This means you’ve got to place your first bet of $25 before the bookmaker will give you the free $25 bet.

Now imagine if you could “buy” your first $25 bet at the bookies and “sell” it somewhere else for $20 then also “sell” the free $25 bet for $20 as well. You’ll have made $15 clear profit!

But how can you “sell” bets? The answer is at a Betting Exchange such as Betfair or BetDAQ.

Matched Betting is a technique of “buying” and “selling” these bets for a guaranteed overall profit.

So is it gambling or investment?

All definitions of investment boil down to “the use of money in the hope of making more money”.

When you Matched Bet before you “buy” your bet you make sure you have some one who will “buy” it off you and you will also know the price they are willing to pay.

And, because you’re able to sell something that you got for free, Matched Betting isn’t a question of “will I make a profit?” it’s a case of “how much profit will I make”!

Matched Betting replaces the word “hope” in the definition of investment above with the word “knowledge”! It becomes “the use of money in the knowledge of making more money”.

So is Matched Betting gambling or investment? “Guaranteed overall profit” sounds very much like investment to me.
